Many of you new to Windows Vista may be wondering where is Telnet? It used to be in other versions of Windows, but now its missing and what I am going to do? We all know by now that Telnet isn’t a secure form of protocol, but still an invaluable tool for diagnosing connections and port availability to arbitrary ports and protocols.
Still the best way is to use a terminal emulator like SSH. However in a pinch many of us still like to use telnet. Telnet was made an optional component in Vista and Longhorn Servers to make it less susceptible to attack and more secure.
There are two ways I know how to enable it and I will show you how here:

The first way is by going to Start->Computer
Next click Uninstall or change a program it is located on the button bar at the top.
On the left hand side bar under Tasks select Turn Windows features on or off.
User Access Control will pop-up, press Continue and wait for the list to populate.
The other way to get to Windows Features is to go to Start- > Control Panel

And then Select Programs and Features.

In Windows Features scroll down until you find Telnet Client and check it.
Next Click the OK and this will install Telnet.

Now when you type telnet it will appear and run like the Good ‘Ole Days.
