One of the things the FUZE/HTC Pro is lacking is enough dedicated buttons to quickly launch the applications you want. Yeah, you can turn the device on(either by pressing the power button, sliding open the keyboard or pulling out the stylus), press the home key(while in portrait) and slide the Touch Flo 3D ribbon until you get to the camera icon and then press the small camera icon to start up the camera that’s easy right?

Well I don’t think so. I just want to turn it on and press one button and be able to take pictures. You could map the PTT button to do this either with a short press or a long press. I prefer to be a bit lazier and mapped the long press of the power button to launch the camera.

longpower

The way I did was to simply make a shortcut link to the camera app by copying it and pasting it as a shortcut  to the windows directory and renaming it to long_power in the Windows directory. You will need to perform a soft reset for it to work, but you will be ready to go with a simple short press, followed by a long press of the power button you will be ready to take pictures.

Or if you are even lazier you can enable any button to wake it up, but you risk the chance of say taking a picture of the contents of your pocket or bag. I remember KeyLock used to be there, but it isn’t there now at least for me probably due to some registry hacking, but I was able to turn it back on with a simple change to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd and change DefaultKeyLock from 1 to 0. Note in order to switch to the camera the device has to be on, so you aren’t really saving yourself much here.

Another option is that if you don’t feel comfortable copying, pasting, and renaming, you can go to Settings->Buttons->Program Buttons and change the program launch default of Voice Command to Camera (or whatever program you wish to launch), but I like having Voice Command as a button press too so my method works for me!
