OK now this is ridiculous, I just made the decision to finally breakdown and purchase a P1610. All excited to try out the Origami Experience I saw at CES and I get this after running the 15MB MSI.

Very discouraging!!! I just baffles me that MS thinks that this UI while locked to 7″ screens under the UMPC specifications doesn’t think outside of the box for other applications and devices that may want to use this UI. I mean COME ON!!!
I was planning on using it on my P1610 as well as a car PC I am building with a 7″ touch screen, nope it doesn’t work there either and maybe altering the UI a bit to work better with the Media Center PC with an ELO touchscreen that will be moving from the kitchen to the dining room for WAF purposes when our addition is done.
So I decided to look at the MSI, I downloaded the Microsoft® Windows® Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows Vista™ from here. Installed it

All you need is the ORCA MSI editor, if you have the room (2.4 GB) and want to install the rest you can.

This is located under Developer Tools ->Windows Development Tools -> Win32 Developement Tools and it takes 106.9MB after installed and 16MB to download since most of it is installed via an internet connection. Once installed head to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0\Bin and click on Orca .

This will install the Orca MSI editor and you can now make your changes.

Launch Orca and open the Origami Experience MSI

Open InstallExecuteSequence

Select and delete LaunchConditions

Hit OK.

Next you will select InstallUISequence located right under it and do the same thing, delete LaunchConditions.

Editing the MSI you will see there are a few lines that point to 7″ as a requirement for install. As you can guess get rid of it. J
Now just save all your hard work and run the OrigamiExperience.msi file, wait and Voila! You are now experiencing Origami. The only downside is that it is in a small window due to the size of the source image PNG files. A workaround is to set your devices resolution to 800 x 600. You can do this in change the screen resolution in the Intel Graphics Media App - set the display to 800×600 and in the Aspect ratio setting to Full Screen (No Border).
